This striped upholstered sofa was manufactured in the 1950s by Johannes Hansen on behalf of Danish designer Grete Jalk. Known mostly for her bent plywood furnishings, Jalk was one of Denmark’s most prolific female modernists. Having mostly designed unique experimental functional objects which are displayed in museums for their ingenuity, Jalk also designed quotidian pieces for consumers. With its charming striped print and solid oak legs, this high-back loveseat is a classic example of Jalk’s more commercial work.
